Charlie Bradley Ross Sunday, 1 October 2017

In my opinion, it's vital that to be a great designer, you have a solid understanding of the construction of fabric. The technical terminology and nitty-gritty of fabric production sometimes get swept aside, but knowing how textiles are made and the different features that will affect the way they look and feel, is crucial and can be the difference between a product that works for your customer, and a product that's simply thrown away.

In this video you’ll learn:

  • What a micron is, how it's written and what effect different microns have on textiles.
  • How every fibre has a different physical property and how you can use this to the benefit of design. Wool, for example, will keep you cooler in warmer weather and warmer in cold weather. We can also see its natural fire-proof effect.
  • How fibre is turned into a thread.
  • What is a super number fabric? The ideal super number and micron for wool fabric.
