Cordwainers Grow: Urban Food and Textiles

Cordwainers Grow: Urban Food and Textiles

Cordwainers Grow Monday, 1 November 2021

An hour-long panel discussion from the founders of Community Interest Company Cordwainers Grow and Cordwainers Dye, Kate Poland and Debbie Mitchener. This was first shown as part of our monthly panel discussion series in March 2021, to uncover regenerative fashion practices to end hunger. We address how this pair work to support nature-based practitioners, encourage community urban food growing, and educate on the connections between food and fibre.

In this Interview you will learn:

  • About how Cordwainers started (and inspiration on how to start your own textile dye garden)
  • Some of the projects they advocate, including BLOOM that gives a space for Black gardeners, herbalists and other nature facilitators to share their wisdom
  • How they developed and ran the London Garment project, growing and producing an entire garment in the city
  • What urban colour looks like, how to develop your own urban garden that supports textiles and crafts
